What to Check After a Jump Start

A jump start gets the engine running again, but it does not explain why the battery discharged. Pay attention to the next start and the charging system.

What to Check After a Jump Start

A jump start is a temporary measure

The battery may still be deeply discharged, aged or affected by an electrical drain. Avoid switching the engine off immediately where it would leave the vehicle stranded again.

Observe the next start

If the next start is weak or warning lights remain on, request a battery and charging-system check. Repeated jump starts can hide a problem that requires repair.

Quick checklist

1Check dashboard warnings
2Allow appropriate charging time
3Observe the next start
4Arrange testing if discharge repeats
